Frequently Asked Questions – Treatment

What happens at my first appointment? How long will it take?

Upon arriving at our office, you will be welcomed as a new member of our chiropractic family!

Your first appointment will take approximately one hour, during which Dr. Yin will evaluate, diagnose, and treat your condition. The comprehensive examination will involve orthopedic, neurological, and physical tests to help Dr. Yin arrive at a diagnosis. X-rays and other diagnostic testing will be discussed if required and a detailed report will be given outlining the treatment protocol. Treatment is administered the same day and most patients experience results immediately after getting up off the adjusting table.

Dr. Yin is extremely punctual and you will typically be seen within minutes of your scheduled time. Please remember to bring your completed registration forms with you, along with any medical records. You can download the registration forms or request a copy to be sent to you via fax or email.

How many adjustments will I need?

The number of adjustments varies with each patient and their individual health goals. Many patients sense progress within a week or two of frequent visits. Visits become less necessary as your body stabilizes. In chronic or traumatic cases, complete healing can take months, or even years.

What if I had a previously bad chiropractic experience?

We still encourage you to try chiropractic as a natural and effective approach to common musculoskeletal conditions. Like all healthcare providers, it is important to note that all chiropractors may have different treatment approaches, and so you should find a doctor that fits your needs. Dr. Yin personally treats all of her patients and spends quality time getting to know all of them. We believe in providing personalized treatments in a comfortable environment.

How long until I feel better?

Some patients experience almost instant relief. Others discover it can take many weeks or months. Many factors can affect the healing process. How long have you had your problem? Are you keeping appointments? Are you getting the proper rest, exercise and nutrition? Do you smoke? Are you in otherwise good condition? Within a short period of time, most patients sense enough progress to fully carry out their doctor’s recommendations.

Is chiropractic care addictive? Will I have to go all the time?

No. You decide how much you want to benefit from chiropractic care. In fact, most patients choose to come back for treatment because they know how much better they feel afterwards. Most patients also realize how important it is to maintain their health, rather than constantly having to treat the symptoms. Feeling well is addictive… not chiropractic.

Why do I need to continue treatment if my pain is gone?

Once your pain levels have been reduced and your original complaint has resolved, treatment is focused on correcting the underlying injury or cause of discomfort. This usually involves strengthening weak muscles, exercising stiff joints, and lengthening short ligaments/tendons, in addition to normalizing spinal function.

Many patients who stop therapy at this stage may experience frequent relapses in their symptoms, since the original problem is never fully corrected for. In essence, this is the most important stage of chiropractic care that may take the longest time to achieve the necessary results. For a full description, review the stages of Care.

My pain was resolved, but why does it keep coming back?

We cannot guarantee that you will be “cured” for life after treatment, and we cannot anticipate the types of stresses that will be placed upon you in the future. The most we can do is relieve your pain, correct the problem, and educate you on the proper lifestyle modifications or exercises that can reduce the likelihood of these flare-ups.

Do you accept insurance?

We accept Medicare and most PPO plans. Auto accidents and work-related injuries are almost always covered at 100%. If you have questions regarding your insurance coverage, please contact us and we will be happy to assist you.

What if my policy doesn’t cover chiropractic?

Your health is your most valuable possession. Yet, each of us is free to place a different value on health. It’s expected that our insurance company “should” pay the bill, but sometimes it does not. We want to make chiropractic care accessible to everyone, but we also value the service that we provide. Please contact us to see how we make it affordable to almost everyone.

What if chiropractic doesn’t work?

If we’re unable to find and correct the cause of your particular health problem, we will refer you to other specialists who may be able to help. Also, we encourage you to seek alternative forms of therapy if elected.

If you have any other questions please feel free to contact us. Our staff would be happy to speak with you.
